From Family Holidays To Purchasing Land In The Cayman Islands
For Corey, the Cayman Islands weren't somewhere he had only seen in photographs or travel brochures. His family had visited several times over the years, often returning around once a year.
Having experienced the islands firsthand, Corey began considering whether he could eventually have somewhere of his own to return to.
"If I'm going to purchase somewhere, it might as well be somewhere that I'm familiar with."
The three Cayman Islands each offer something different. Grand Cayman is known for its beaches, restaurants and attractions, while Cayman Brac and Little Cayman offer smaller communities, distinctive natural landscapes and a quieter pace of life.
For Corey, his familiarity with Cayman was an important starting point. But deciding to purchase land overseas was something he wanted to approach carefully.
Why Corey Took His Time Before Purchasing
One of the most interesting parts of Corey's story is that he didn't make an immediate decision after his first conversation with Oasis.
He explains that he initially enquired approximately one or two years before eventually purchasing. During that time, he continued researching the company, learning about the Cayman Islands and speaking with Anwar.
Corey is open about having concerns at the beginning. He wanted to make sure the company was genuine and understand exactly how the overseas purchasing process worked.
Rather than rushing, he used that time to ask questions and carry out his own independent checks.
For anyone considering freehold land for sale in the Cayman Islands, understanding the location, documentation and purchasing process is an important part of making an informed decision.
Understanding Freehold Land Ownership In Cayman
During his research, Corey became particularly interested in the concept of freehold ownership.
Having previously owned property in the United States, he wanted to understand the ownership arrangements in the Cayman Islands and how they compared with his experiences elsewhere.
Freehold / Fee Simple ownership means owning the land itself rather than holding it under a fixed-term lease. Oasis specialises in freehold building land, with title transferred and registered following completion of the relevant payment and legal requirements.
Another feature that interested Corey was the absence of annual land and property taxes in the Cayman Islands. This is confirmed in the Cayman Islands Government's information on taxation and land ownership.
However, purchasing land does involve other costs, including stamp duty on title transfer and applicable legal or administration fees. The relevant rates and requirements should always be confirmed for the individual transaction.
Our Cayman Islands Knowledge Hub provides further information about freehold ownership, title transfers and the land purchasing process.
Why Corey Chose Cayman Brac
After exploring his options, Corey chose P27 at Brac Beauty on Cayman Brac.
Cayman Brac is the second largest of the three Cayman Islands, known for its dramatic limestone Bluff, caves, rugged coastline and slower pace of life.
The official Cayman Islands tourism guide to Cayman Brac highlights the island's natural attractions, cultural heritage and opportunities for outdoor exploration.
Unlike the busier districts of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac offers smaller communities and a more relaxed atmosphere. Visitors can explore the Bluff, discover the island's caves or simply enjoy the quieter surroundings.
Oasis offers freehold building land on Cayman Brac, including locations around the island's distinctive Bluff landscape.
Corey's parcel is within the Brac Beauty development. Readers interested in exploring the wider development can also view Brac Beauty Edge, another parcel within the same development, subject to current availability.

A Long-Term Plan To Build A Family Home
When Anwar asks Corey about his plans for the land, his answer reveals just how personal the purchase is to him.
Corey hopes to build a property on Cayman Brac that his family can enjoy when visiting the islands. More importantly, he wants it to be something that remains within his family over the long term.
"My biggest thing is to be able to have something that I can pass down to my family and my kids, my grandkids, my children's children."
For Corey, the goal is to create a place associated with family holidays, shared experiences and future generations.
Anyone considering building on Cayman Brac should research the planning requirements and permitted uses for their particular parcel. Our Cayman Brac land guide provides an introduction to the island and the characteristics of the locations offered by Oasis.
How Did Corey Find The Purchasing Process?
The conversation also explores Corey's experience with the paperwork, payments and communication involved in purchasing his parcel.
He describes the documentation process as straightforward and explains that he used Wise to make payments.
Corey also appreciated the ability to spread his payments over time without interest being added to the agreed purchase price.
Oasis offers interest-free payment plans for eligible Cayman Islands land purchases, with the applicable deposit and payment term detailed on each land listing.
Corey explains that, when comparing his options, the payment arrangements were one of the features he found appealing.
Why Independent Due Diligence Matters
One of the strongest messages from Corey's interview is the importance he placed on researching the purchase for himself.
He explains that the information provided by Oasis and what he discovered through his own checks aligned, helping him become more comfortable with his decision.
"I also did my own due diligence and I did my own research."
At Oasis, we encourage prospective purchasers to review the documentation, understand the costs, ask questions and seek independent professional advice where appropriate.
Our standard US$250 reservation holds a selected parcel for 10 days while the purchaser completes their initial due diligence. The reservation fee remains refundable until the purchase agreement is signed and exchanged, in accordance with the applicable terms.
The Oasis Knowledge Hub includes explanations of the reservation process, payment plans, compliance requirements and title transfers.
A Client Relationship That Continued Beyond The Purchase
Another recurring theme throughout the interview is the relationship Corey and Anwar have developed over time.
Corey explains that they remain in regular contact, often communicating through WhatsApp, and that he appreciates having somebody familiar with his circumstances available to answer questions.
He also mentions receiving messages on occasions such as New Year's Eve and the Fourth of July, describing their relationship as much more personal than he had initially expected.
"They took all the guesswork out of it. We walked through it step by step."

Returning To Cayman After Purchasing
Since purchasing, Corey has returned to the Cayman Islands as part of a cruise holiday. However, he didn't have the opportunity to travel across to Cayman Brac and visit his parcel during that trip.
Anwar mentions Oasis's concierge service during the interview and offers to help Corey arrange a future visit.
For anyone planning to explore Cayman Brac, the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism provides information about attractions, travel and the island's natural environment.
What Advice Would Corey Give Someone Considering Cayman?
Towards the end of the podcast, Anwar asks Corey what he would say to somebody considering purchasing land in the Cayman Islands.
Corey shares his personal view that people who have already decided Cayman is right for them should consider their timing. He refers to land he had previously looked at and says he later saw higher asking prices.
These are Corey's individual observations, not a prediction about future prices or a recommendation from Oasis Land Development.
What is particularly valuable about his experience is the way he approached the decision: familiarising himself with the islands, researching the company, reviewing the documentation and considering his family's long-term plans before moving forward.
Every Cayman Land Purchase Has Its Own Story
Corey's journey from family holidays to purchasing land on Cayman Brac is just one example of why people choose to explore freehold ownership in the Cayman Islands.
For Corey, it was about familiarity, family and the possibility of eventually building somewhere his children and grandchildren could enjoy.
Other purchasers will have different priorities, circumstances and plans. Understanding the land and making an informed decision remains essential.
