Celebrating 18 Years Of Oasis Land Development
Eighteen years is a significant milestone for any company, but it carries particular meaning for a business that has worked across different countries, changing markets and three individual Cayman Islands.
Oasis Land Development was established in 2008 with the aim of making freehold land ownership in the Cayman Islands more accessible and understandable to people based around the world.
Since then, the company has expanded its team, introduced developments across Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, and guided thousands of clients through the process of purchasing and transferring freehold building land.
The anniversary podcast was less about presenting a formal company history and more about bringing together people who have each contributed to the Oasis story. Alongside familiar podcast hosts Ellie, Blake and Anwar, the episode welcomed Director John McClean Jr. and Senior Advisor John Graham for a relaxed conversation about the past, present and future of Oasis. Meet The Oasis Anniversary Podcast Team
John McClean Jr. has worked with Oasis for approximately 13 years and has served as the company’s Cayman Islands Director for seven years.
As a seventh-generation Caymanian, John brings an extensive understanding of the islands, their communities, their history and the local process surrounding land development and ownership.
While his role involves working with lawyers, surveyors, contractors and other professionals, John explained that the most enjoyable part of his position is meeting clients and showing them the Cayman Islands personally.
Senior Advisor John Graham has been part of the Oasis team for around five years. During the episode, he described visiting the Cayman Islands, learning about its history and helping clients work towards land ownership as some of the most memorable aspects of his role.
Together with Blake, Anwar and Ellie, the two Johns brought different perspectives to the episode: Caymanian heritage, client guidance, international travel, compliance, marketing and the everyday experiences of working within the Oasis team. More information about the people supporting clients across the business is available on our Meet The Team page.
From International Property Shows To A Global Digital Presence
One of the clearest examples of how Oasis has changed over 18 years is the way the company connects with prospective clients.
During the company’s earliest years, Blake and Anwar travelled extensively to attend overseas property exhibitions. Their work involved setting up stands, meeting people face to face and introducing international audiences to the Cayman Islands.
The team recalled completing their initial training around a table before being sent almost immediately to a major property exhibition in Dubai. There was little time to ease gradually into the role. The company had secured its first land developments, and the team was quickly travelling across the world to present them.
For several years, advisors were frequently based at international shows rather than working together from one permanent office. The company’s operations were comparatively small, with limited administrative support and a team spread between different countries.
Today, Oasis has a larger UK marketing office, the company can reach international buyers through its website, online advertising, social media, video calls, digital brochures, blogs and podcasts.
| Oasis Then | Oasis Today |
|---|---|
| International property exhibitions | Global digital marketing and online consultations |
| A small team with limited administration | Dedicated sales, marketing, accounts, compliance and support teams |
| Printed brochures and exhibition stands | Videos, podcasts, blogs, social media and digital brochures |
| Team members frequently working in different countries | A central UK office supported by international team members |
| Clients mainly discovering Oasis through events | Clients researching Oasis and the Cayman Islands online |
Why The Cayman Blueprint Podcast Matters
The Cayman Blueprint Podcast has become an important part of the way Oasis communicates with its audience.
During the anniversary episode, the team discussed how clients regularly mention podcast episodes, YouTube videos and social media clips during their conversations with advisors.
One particularly memorable moment occurred when Anwar was recognised by podcast viewers while visiting George Town. The visitors were cruise passengers from the United States who had already seen the Oasis team online.
This increased visibility allows clients to see the people behind the company before speaking with an advisor. It also gives them an opportunity to understand the personalities, knowledge and relationships within the Oasis team.
The podcast topics are often chosen around real searches and frequently asked client questions. By creating episodes about ownership, island lifestyle, available land locations and the differences between Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, the team aims to answer questions before a prospective client even needs to ask them. Buyers can also explore further guides through the Oasis Knowledge Hub.

Committed To Doing Things Properly
The growth of the podcast reflects a wider characteristic of Oasis: once the company commits to something, it tends not to approach it by half measures.
The first Oasis podcast episodes were recorded around a table using relatively simple microphones. The team was learning as it went, but the aim was clear: to create useful, accessible content about the Cayman Islands and land ownership.
That initial setup has since developed into a dedicated podcast studio with professional cameras, production equipment and behind-the-scenes support.
However, the production equipment is only one part of the process. The podcast also depends on the wider team researching topics, preparing information, filming content, editing episodes and supporting clients who respond to what they have watched.
As several members explained during the anniversary episode, every person within Oasis contributes to the service clients ultimately receive, including many team members who are rarely seen on camera.
Welcoming Clients To The Cayman Islands
Although digital communication now allows much of the purchase process to be completed remotely, visiting the Cayman Islands remains an important experience for many Oasis clients.
John McClean Jr. explained that meeting visiting clients is one of the best parts of his role. He enjoys taking people to see their land, introducing them to the local area and helping them feel comfortable on the islands.
For some clients, it is their first visit to the Cayman Islands. They may have completed extensive research and spoken with their advisor many times, but seeing their location and experiencing the surrounding community can bring the entire process to life. Our Come With Us To The Cayman Islands blog provides a closer look at one of the team’s visits.
The team discussed how these visits often go beyond simply identifying the boundaries of a parcel. Clients may be introduced to local people, shown important landmarks and given an insight into Caymanian history and culture.
This personal hospitality is one of the qualities John believes distinguishes Oasis. Rather than treating a land transfer as the end of the relationship, the team aims to ensure clients continue to feel supported and connected.
A Strong Connection To Caymanian Heritage
John McClean Jr.’s understanding of the Cayman Islands is rooted in generations of family history.
His father, John McClean Sr., served in the Cayman Islands Legislative Assembly between 1976 and 2000 and held responsibilities connected with agriculture and natural resources.
The podcast also explored the McClean family’s ancestral connection to the Isle of Mull in Scotland. During a trip to the island, John was able to explore his family history and place his father’s state funeral programme within the local archives.
This combination of Caymanian identity and ancestral history reflects one of the themes running throughout the episode: land is often closely connected with family, heritage and a sense of place.
When John shows clients around the Cayman Islands, he is therefore able to provide more than directions. He can explain the history behind locations, share personal stories and introduce visitors to a side of Cayman that they might not experience through a standard tourist itinerary.
Understanding The History Of The Cayman Islands
One location recommended during the podcast was Pedro St. James, one of Grand Cayman’s most important historic attractions.
The restored eighteenth-century property provides an introduction to Caymanian history and the development of democracy across the islands. Visitors can explore the grounds, view historical exhibitions and learn more about the events that helped shape modern Cayman.
The team recalled visiting Pedro St. James with John, who also shared his own family connection to the site and surrounding area.
These personal stories are one reason repeat visits to the Cayman Islands can continue to reveal something new. Even team members who have travelled there many times explained that they still learn more about the islands on each trip.
The Story Behind Stingray City
Stingray City featured prominently in the team’s memories, particularly when Blake recalled being persuaded to enter the water and kiss a stingray for good luck.
John explained that the attraction developed from the habits of local fishermen. After returning through the reef, fishermen would stop in the shallow water to clean their catch. Stingrays gradually began gathering in the area to feed on the scraps.
Over time, the stingrays became accustomed to people entering the water and feeding them. The location eventually developed into one of Grand Cayman’s most recognised visitor attractions.
The story is a good example of how many well-known Cayman attractions have grown from local customs, natural surroundings and the relationship between Caymanians and the sea.

Memorable Moments From 18 Years
An 18-year history naturally provides plenty of memorable stories, and some of the funniest moments in the anniversary episode came from the team’s visits to the Cayman Islands. Oasis has marked previous milestones too, including its 15-year anniversary celebrations.
These included Anwar attempting to walk out of the Caribbean Sea like James Bond before being knocked over by a wave, becoming too disruptive for a relaxing paddleboard yoga session and waking John McClean far too early for an afternoon flight.
Blake recalled discovering he had very little time to travel from the East End of Grand Cayman to Owen Roberts International Airport, as well as his nervous introduction to Stingray City.
Other stories involved horse riding through the sea, unusual gym equipment and the many unplanned moments that occur when the team travels together.
These experiences may not form part of the official history of Oasis, but they have helped build the relationships and friendships behind the company.
The People Behind Oasis
The anniversary discussion repeatedly returned to the importance of the wider team.
Over the years, Oasis has developed from a small number of advisors and administrators into a more structured international organisation. Different departments now contribute specialist knowledge throughout the client journey.
The sales team introduces clients to the available locations and answers their initial questions. Administration and transaction teams coordinate documents and agreements. Compliance staff complete the necessary identification and verification processes. Accounts manage payments, while marketing and production teams create the information clients use to research the company.
The team also recognised the external professionals who have supported Oasis over many years, including surveyors, developers, contractors, lawyers and local partners involved in preparing and progressing Cayman Islands land developments.
John specifically thanked the surveying teams who have worked through densely wooded areas across all three islands to establish subdivision boundaries and prepare plans for submission to the Cayman Islands Government.
A Close-Knit Office Culture
The podcast also gave viewers an insight into the daily personalities within the Oasis office.
Ellie was unanimously described as the office parent, largely because of her determination to find out who has left plates, lights or air conditioning unattended. The team explained that even small office mysteries can quickly become full investigations involving dates, times and supporting evidence.
Anwar was selected as both the funniest team member and the person most likely to tell a memorable story. Blake was praised for his professionalism and systems knowledge, while John Graham was recognised for being dependable and available to support his colleagues.
John McClean, meanwhile, was recognised for teaching the team about Caymanian culture, history and local life.
Although much of this part of the episode was light-hearted, it demonstrated how closely the team now works together. Several members explained that one of the biggest changes they had witnessed was simply having so many departments and colleagues working together within one office.
Supporting Clients From Reservation To Ownership
While Oasis has changed considerably, the company’s central purpose remains supporting people who want to purchase freehold building land in the Cayman Islands.
International land ownership naturally comes with questions. Prospective buyers want to understand what they are purchasing, how ownership is registered, which documents they need and what happens after completing their payment plan.
John explained that buyers were often more sceptical during the company’s earlier years because Oasis had not yet developed the long history or client record it has today.
After 18 years and thousands of property transfers, the company can now point prospective clients towards completed owners, testimonials, land records, long-standing professional relationships and an extensive library of educational content.
However, longevity does not remove the need for clear guidance. The team continues to help clients understand each stage of the process and remains available after completion when owners have questions about visiting, maintaining, developing or transferring their land.
Building Long-Term Client Relationships
One of the strongest themes in the episode was that Oasis would not have reached its 18th anniversary without its clients.
The team has supported buyers from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, China, India, countries throughout Africa and many other parts of the world.
Many of these relationships continue long after the original purchase. Clients return to the Cayman Islands, remain in contact with their advisors and sometimes choose to purchase additional land.
For John McClean, the aim is for visiting clients to feel more like friends or extended family than people completing a transaction. He wants them to leave the islands feeling comfortable, informed and welcomed into Caymanian life.
This approach reflects the three words John used to summarise the Oasis experience: hospitality, trust and honesty.
Looking Ahead To The Next 18 Years
When Oasis began in 2008, the current office, podcast studio and international digital presence would have been difficult to imagine.
The anniversary episode therefore ended with the team considering where Oasis might be after another 18 years.
Technology, communication and the Cayman Islands themselves will inevitably continue to change. New developments will be created, different generations of clients will discover the islands and the ways people research and purchase international property will continue to evolve.
However, the qualities the team wants to carry into the future are largely the same ones that have sustained Oasis through its first 18 years: a strong team, reliable service, local Cayman knowledge and genuine relationships with clients.
As John McClean explained in his final anniversary message, Oasis looks forward to welcoming new clients to the Cayman Islands and continuing to offer the same hospitality, honesty and integrity.
