Rum Retreat Grand Cayman: Location, Lifestyle & What’s Developing Around It

Rum Retreat is Oasis Land Development’s newest Grand Cayman community, positioned on Rum Point Drive on the island’s North Side. In this episode of The Cayman Blueprint Podcast, Ellie, Blake and Anwar take a closer look at the development itself, the surrounding area and why Rum Point continues to attract so much attention.

Where Is Rum Retreat?

One of the points Ellie, Blake and Anwar return to throughout the episode is that Rum Retreat offers something quite different from Signature One.

Signature One is designed as a larger community-style development with a lake and future communal amenities. Rum Retreat, by contrast, is much more about the surrounding area itself.

For some buyers, that may be exactly the appeal. Rather than choosing a large community environment, they may prefer a more individual setting close to the beach, restaurants, boating and the wider Rum Point lifestyle.

That difference gives Oasis clients two very distinct Grand Cayman options depending on the type of lifestyle they are looking for.

Large Lots With Duplex Potential

Another feature highlighted in the podcast is the size of the available Rum Retreat lots.

At the time of filming, the remaining locations discussed by the team were all over 12,500 sq. ft., which is significant because lots of that size can potentially accommodate duplex-style development, subject to the normal Cayman Islands planning process.

The team also discussed current Low Density Residential planning rules, where maximum site coverage can reach 30%. Watching Rum Retreat Change In Real Time

One of the strongest parts of the podcast is the visual comparison between the team’s visits from late 2024 through to 2026.

On the first visit, roads were not yet complete, the site was still in a construction phase and a nearby home was still being built.

By May 2025, the roads were well underway and the nearby house had been completed and landscaped.

By October 2025, the development roads were complete. On a later visit in April 2026, the team could already see further residential construction taking place nearby.

That progression is particularly useful because it allows prospective buyers to see actual changes rather than relying on speculation. The podcast footage shows how quickly both Rum Retreat and the surrounding area have moved forward.

Public Shoreline Access Around Rum Point

The episode also explored something that is particularly useful for anyone unfamiliar with Cayman: public shoreline access.

Using the Cayman Islands Government’s Shoreline iMap, the team showed how many registered public access points exist around Rum Point Drive and the surrounding coastline.

The Public Lands Commission explains that the iMap identifies public pedestrian pathways to the shoreline and Government-owned public beach areas across all three Cayman Islands. Grand Cayman alone has more than 250 registered shoreline access points.

Not every access point is a developed beach with facilities. Some are simply narrow pathways between properties that open directly onto the shoreline. For residents and visitors, that can mean finding quieter stretches of coast away from the main tourist beaches.

A Grocery Store With A Beach Behind It

One of Blake’s favourite discoveries from a recent visit was far simpler.

Just down the road from Rum Retreat is a small grocery store Chisholm's Grocery. After stopping for a cold drink and a couple of Cayman patties, Blake discovered that directly behind the shop was a small beach area with benches.

It is a small detail, but it captures exactly what the team likes about this part of Grand Cayman. Everyday conveniences and Caribbean shoreline can sit almost side-by-side.

The Rum Point Lifestyle

Rum Point itself remains one of the strongest attractions of the area.

The official Cayman Islands tourism website highlights Rum Point’s shallow water, hammocks, food, watersports and access to Stingray Sandbar trips, while the wider area includes restaurants, boating and residential communities.

One of the team’s favourite experiences is the Sunday boating atmosphere, when boats gather in the area, music plays and groups spend the day socialising on the water.

It is not something limited to boat owners either. Private boat charters operate around the North Side, meaning visitors can experience that side of Rum Point without owning their own boat.

A Growing Part Of Grand Cayman

The team repeatedly comments on how much residential construction they have seen around Rum Point over recent visits.

New houses, completed homes, landscaping and further development are now visible along roads that were previously much quieter.

Rum Retreat Or Signature One?

The podcast does not try to argue that one Oasis development is better than another. Instead, it highlights that Rum Retreat and Signature One suit different types of buyers.

Signature One offers a larger community-style environment with a 10-acre lake and future shared amenities.

Rum Retreat is more about its immediate surroundings: larger lots, proximity to Rum Point, nearby shoreline access and a quieter North Side setting close to established tourism infrastructure.
