Plans are now underway for the first phase of Grand Cayman’s major new airport project.

The Cayman Islands Airport Authority has officially issued an invitation to tender for the proposed work on the Owen Roberts International Airport expansion, which will include the construction of a steel-framed 29,000-square-foot structure, among other features.

“This is a very exciting time for the Airports Authority,” said Cayman Islands Airports Authority CEO Albert Anderson. “After Phase 1 commences on site we will put our Requests for Pre-qualification followed by an Invitation to Tender for construction on Phase 2, which will begin with the expansion of the existing departure lounge.”

The CIAA said construction on phase one would not impact daily operations at the airport.

The group said contractors must submit bids by Friday, July 24.
