Farm-Fresh Dining on Cayman Brac Showcased in Final Episode of VICE Series

A remote, farm-focused restaurant on Cayman Brac has been featured in the final episode of the VICE Munchies x Cayman Islands series, spotlighting the island’s unique approach to food, hospitality, and sustainable living. The nearly nine-minute video, titled Eating At The Caribbean’s Most Secluded Island Restaurant, was produced in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and explores how nature, simplicity, and local produce come together to create a truly distinctive dining experience.

Set atop Cayman Brac’s iconic limestone bluff, the farm and restaurant span 20 acres of cultivated gardens filled with over 300 varieties of fruits, herbs, and vegetables. The episode is led by Chef Rene Sanchez, who walks viewers through rows of mango trees, guinep bushes, soursop plants, and Mediterranean herbs, explaining how each day’s menu is shaped by what the land offers. For Sanchez, this connection to the earth is deeply personal. He describes his morning routine of gathering ingredients before sunrise as one of the most inspiring parts of his culinary journey. “We let the land speak,” he explains. “Whatever’s ready, that’s what we cook.”

The restaurant is located on South Side Road, Cayman Brac, a peaceful and scenic area that is also home to several of Oasis’s freehold building land opportunities. This stretch of coastline offers oceanfront, bluff-top, and inland parcels ideal for building a private home or future rental property. With the growing interest in sustainable living and quiet escapes, South Side Road has become one of the most desirable locations for those looking to own a piece of Cayman Brac’s charm. In the video, hotel manager Amar Thottathil shares how meaningful it was to welcome the VICE team to the island, calling it an opportunity to showcase both the natural beauty of the Brac and the intimate, slow-paced lifestyle it offers. He notes that the episode beautifully captured not only the essence of the farm and restaurant but also the tranquil magic of Cayman Brac itself.

This is the final instalment of the VICE Munchies x Cayman Islands series, which has highlighted the diversity of culinary talent across the islands. Previous episodes featured local chef Diego Smith and his street-food brand D’s Pizza, known for its Detroit-style deep-dish with a Caymanian twist, and Cayman Cabana, where Luigi and Christina Moxam bring a vibrant mix of Caribbean flavours and cocktail culture to George Town’s waterfront.

Rosa Harris, Director of the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, praised the series for showcasing the islands’ evolving food scene. “This was a great opportunity to highlight the diversity of Cayman’s culinary talent, from street food to sustainable fine dining,” she said. “We’re excited to continue sharing these local stories on a global stage.”

All three episodes of the series are now available on the VICE Munchies YouTube channel, offering a fresh perspective on Cayman’s growing reputation for culinary excellence.
